Black Belts are Warriors! – Karate Norcross

At Choe’s HapKiDo in Norcross, Georgia, it is a big honor when our students receive their black belts. Not only is the day big for us, but most importantly for the students. In the video, the young man who receives his black belt at our Karate Norcross location represents hard work, perseverance, and success.

As shared in the video, Master Cody Foor shares his perspective, “The journey to black belt is not an easy one. This is the journey of a warrior. It is full of challenges. Nobody makes it alone. We all support each other.”  In addition to students having desire to learn martial arts, the help to achieve black belt comes from the instructors, peers, family, friends, and other influential people who show support. The longer we spend time together, the more we become more of a family. Together we train, spar each other, hold targets for one another, comfort all when in pain, help each other achieve goals, and celebrate each other’s hard work and victories.

Spending time with the martial arts family like the one in Karate Norcross is special time. The bond we share is intimate, strong, and we have each other’s backs.

Congratulations Instructor Williams! We are super proud!

Choe’s HapKiDo has been teaching in America since 1978.  With many locations all over America, HapKiDo has been making a real impact in the local communities, and is starting to make a profound and wide spread change in the way people live their lives.  HapKiDo teaches its students to live a life of respect and compassion, while giving people confidence in themselves and the self-discipline needed to reach their goals.  These character traits, along with learning how to live a healthy lifestyle, gives HapKiDo students the tools they need to be successful in any endeavor they choose.

HapKiDo Martial Arts
Choe’s HapKiDo

As a guide to living the HapKiDo lifestyle, all of the Choe’s HapKiDo Students learn to live and train with 4 Precepts in mind.  These precepts are a guide to what they train to accomplish, and helps us keep moving in the right direction.  The Precepts of HapKiDo are:

1) We Discipline Our Minds and Bodies
2) We Cultivate a High Quality of Personality
3) We Develop Good Wisdom and Sagacity
4) We Serve the Community

By really embracing these precepts anyone will be able begin living in a way that will improve the lives of not only themselves but of those around them as well.

Our organization is guided by Grandmaster JiMong Choe, who has dedicated his life to helping spread the benefit of this martial art, as well as the benefits of living a healthy life.  He is not only a Martial Arts Grandmaster, his is also an oriental medical doctor, so we are lucky to not only have the martial arts knowledge but also the healing side brought into what we learn to give us a well rounded education to optimize our education!  HapKiDo has been teaching people how to live to their maximum potential in America for decades, it is time for you to see what it can do for you!!

What to look forward to:

Refining your martial arts practice. Similar to the belt tests where one’s skills are presented in front of judges and peers, the championships also provide students a different way to demonstrate their practices. While belt tests evaluate students on an individual basis, the excitement and adrenaline of competing inspires students to polish their skills and become even better martial artists. For Karate Cumming Georgia and all other schools, the competitions are where everything from training comes together.

Meeting HapKiDo students from different schools and states. Meeting other HapKiDo students from miles away adds a cool perspective to the competition: the love of HapKiDo is also practiced across the states! In fact, the championships bring together all Choe’s HapKiDo schools from four states: Georgia, Maryland, New York, and Virginia.

Watching and cheering on your peers as they compete. In addition to watching higher black belts testing for their second degree and above belts, you will also get to watch and show support to your classmates. Your peers and family will cheer you on, and you will also feel the same excitement to cheer on others. The overall effect is positive!

Win or lose, the summer championships that Karate Cumming Georgia and other locations compete in are meant to bring out your best. To have the guts to compete, to train hard, and to accept all positives and negatives are applicable skills for other events that happen in your life. Whether you are aiming for a leadership role or a promotion at work, these ethics are important to grasp so to learn and to do well.
