Bio Instructor Spotlight: Susie Rogers

Hello world! My name is Instructor Susie Rogers, and I teach at Choe’s HapKiDo & iLoveKickboxing Cumming! I became a 2nd Black Belt Degree in 2016, and I have loved every step of my journey in HapKiDo.

I was first inspired to start martial arts after watching my husband, Scott, and two sons, Alex and Zane, participate. When I joined, I started a belt behind my family members. But in 2013, a super exciting moment happened to our family: three of us tested at the same time and earned our first degree black belts (the youngest was injured and tested just a couple of months later.) Amazingly, Zane and I have continued on and are both second degree black belts. I say this with gratitude, that I would not be where I am today if it were not for my family and big HapKiDo team.

HapKiDo has definitely boosted my confidence level in leading my life. Before HapKiDo, I was comfortable being in the background. Now, stepping out to instruct a fitness class is easier. Growing in confidence has also led me to start my own massage therapy practice. I am also part of a group of massage therapists that work on professional athletes. In addition to refining my HapKiDo skills, I enjoy being inspired to continue growing in my career.

Overall, teaching is my passion. I enjoy watching people accomplish a goal after they thought the success was impossible. My greatest encourager is my husband, and homeschooling our three children is probably where I started sharpening my teaching skills. If anything, teaching kids gives me great pleasure. Helping people is what I love to do.

Nerf War-Parents Night Out at Choe’s HapKiDo Duluth

The Place Your Kids Will Want to Go While You are Out at HapKiDo Duluth!

Duluth–Parents! Looking for a trusting babysitter for the Valentine’s Day weekend? Enjoy an evening with an eased mine knowing your child is in safe hands at Choe’s HapKiDo Duluth’s Nerf War-Parents Night Out event. Occurring on Saturday February 11th from 5pm to 9pm, your child can have the best evening playing with our HapKiDo instructors and other kids.

At Choe’s HapKiDo Duluth, your child will have a great time having a Nerf Battle, pizza, movie, and other fun activities. Our Nerf War-Parents Night Out event is opened to your child and child’s friend. The more, the merrier is key here.

Our bright blue mats provide a nice cushy feel to the feet, while our foam mats used for tumbling practices and kickboxing bags act as great battle station shields. Our HapKiDo Duluth martial arts studio can greatly be turned into a nerf battleroom.

According to Ms. Dzanana Cufurovic, the school’s assistant, her almost thirteen-year-old brother has been attending this annual Nerf War event for the last four years. For them, they enjoy that it gives them an excuse to buy new Nerf guns and be kids.

“One of the things that I’m looking forward to is seeing all of the endless smiles on everyone’s faces no matter the age, and the endless laughter we will all be sharing due to the traditional Nerf War battle,” said Ms. Cufurovic.

By the time you come to pick them up, they would have already eaten and be ready for bed. While they will have super fun running around our studio and having a blast battling our instructors and friends, they will be happy to see you to tell you all about it.

A night out with us would be $10 per child, and the child needs to bring his or her own Nerf gun. This will help cover pizza, snacks, and our helping hands. We also make sure your child returns home with all of his or her Nerfs.

To register your child for Choe’s HapKiDo Duluth‘s Nerf War-Parents Night Out event, contact Master Cody Foor to register:  678-380-0022.

Bio Instructor Spotlight: David Caine

David Caine

Hi! I am Instructor David Caine at i Love Kickboxing Atlanta! I started teaching fitness kickboxing because helping people to reach their goals feels good. I think the art of kickboxing is incredible in the way that the techniques flow together, and teaching is a great way to channel my passion for fitness.

A little about me:

My fitness background includes nine and a half years of MMA (Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu), and six and a half years of kickboxing. By having exercise become a part of my life, I have been able to meet amazing people and have increased my energy and focus levels. Continuing to be the best I can become feels the greatest.

I believe that I can make an impact on people’s lives because fitness is part of my life every day. We need to take time to realize how important we are and let that be our motive. When we make health a priority, we increase the quality and the longevity of life. People need to think about how there are consequences from everything we do. When we hit fifty, do we want to be struggling with getting up or still be running laps around the world. I hope to help people on their journey and share with them the joy fitness has brought me.

To anyone who fears to get out there and make changes in his life, they do not mean that we are inadequate. We are powerful beyond measure, and a lot of time it is our light that most frightens us. Playing small does not serve the world as we were all meant to shine as children do. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give permission for others to do the same. And as we are liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others. So to do great, do not fear to do so because the light will shine through our fears.

Health and Wellness Class for Tai Chi Flowery Branch

Tai Chi Flowery Branch

–Martial Arts location offers an opportunity to learn Tai-Chi, QiGong, and more.

Flowery Branch– People may rise up in the mornings to run, and others may be found heading to a fitness class that has them peacefully moving from QiGong, to Tai Chi, and to Yoga. This class is called Health and Wellness (Tai Chi Flowery Branch), and it is offered by the local Choe’s HapKiDo studio in Flowery Branch. Classes are offered twice a week: Wednesdays at 10 A.M. and Saturdays at 9 A.M.

A martial arts location ran by her and her husband who are both second degree black belts, Instructor Patti Ann Rivera describes how the Health and Wellness class allows all ages to positively increase their well beings with a relaxing, low-impact, and meditative course.

Each class is forty-five minutes long, and it begins with general respect by bowing to each other. As Instructor Patti Ann describes, “We then start with QiGong, which are breathing exercises. Next, calisthenics to warm us up, which includes knee bends and circles. After that, we go into more deep stretching in the style of Zen Kinesthetics. The breathing exercises warm up our bodies and give us a little aerobic activity. And then we move into more QiGong to stimulate all bodily functions. We then move on to the Tai Chi form, and then we end with yoga and meditation.”

Class participant Wade Andrews, age 65, has happily been coming the last four months, “Tai-Chi is perfect for Parkinson’s Disease, and I have finally found a great place to take class.”

For 44-year-old Paula Rowell, who also takes Kickboxing and HapKiDo classes at Choe’s HapKiDo, shares: “Each one of them is a building block with another. The Health and Wellness class helps me with my balance in HapKiDo. In HapKiDo, it helps me with technique and form, which prevents less injury in kickboxing. Plus, they are all a good outlet for stress.”

The main benefits one can experience from the class at Choe’s HapKiDo in Flowery Branch includes better flexibility, extra stamina, an increase in circulation and mobility, and a better grasp on concentration and focus.

As a lot of forms of martial arts like Tai Chi and QiGong are in respect to nature, Instructor Patti Ann likes to have class outdoors at a nearby park during the mild weather months. One perspective that she shares is that each season is connected with the techniques performed in class. To benefit the organs, like the heart that may not be so active during winter, the moves and exercises are meant stimulate them.

For anyone who is interested in try Choe’s HapKiDo Health and Wellness class, the first class is complimentary.

Kickboxing Instructor Archie Grunden

Hello! I am Kickboxing Instructor Archie Grunden at iLoveKickboxing Cumming Ga!  I started teaching fitness kickboxing because I believe exercise saves lives.  The way kickboxing and martial arts has changed my life, I can now give back. I am currently working on running a 10K and plan to go back to school to be a personal trainer. I have overcome my own fitness struggles, and I want to reach out to others.

When I started kickboxing, I went from being 225 pounds to 145 pounds. Now, I feel younger and more healthier than I have ever been in my life. I give great thanks to my HapKiDo and Kickboxing instructor RJ LoPresti.  He helped me believe in myself again and see that there are things bigger than myself. It’s also okay to live with your heart on your sleeve. Plus, being part of the kickboxing and HapKiDo team, I have learned that we are also family.

Through my journey of making a healthier lifestyle, I am able to help people wherever they are at. Even if the person is unmotivated, I will do my best to get on their level. I will show them that their goals are easier to reach if we work on them together. I love being a kickboxing instructor because when I see people’s reactions when they first start seeing results, it’s priceless.

Bio Spotlight: Choe’s HapKiDo Buford Ga Instructor Anthony Rivera

Choe's HapKiDo Buford Ga
Choes HapKiDo Buford Ga

My martial arts journey started during my teenage years with American karate when I lived in South Florida. When my family and I moved to Georgia, my son expressed an interest in martial arts. I then started looking around for, in my eyes, a good instructor in a well-rounded art form. I came across Choe’s HapKiDo Buford Ga and enrolled him, myself, and the rest of my family.

We have our mantra that I truly believe in: “Changing Society One Black Belt at a Time.” Teaching HapKiDo martial arts in Flowery Branch allows me to help people become the best they can be, and it is rewarding. In addition to my experience in HapKiDo training and running Choe’s HapKiDo in Flowery Branch, having Grandmaster Choe and a Master to learn and draw knowledge from is more than lucky—it is also awesome! Working with them and the other people involved at Choe’s HapKiDo Buford Ga shows that working together results in success.
