Is 2017 Ready for You?

Can you believe that we are ten days away from a new year?! WHERE has the time gone??

If you had made 2016 New Year’s resolutions, did any of them have to do with a fitness goal? Research shows that every year this type of goal makes it into the top goals that people make each year. And it’s understandable! We are told that we need fitness and healthy dieting in our lives because being healthier is better. But really, people just want to look good! Yes, the health benefits are thought of during the process, but with everyone we see around us, it’s hard to not play the comparison game and then want to make changes.

This year, instead of playing the comparison game, make at least one goal that benefits you and you only! You are the person who lives with yourself, and you are the one who needs to be taken care of. Every decision we make impacts our personal well-being but also the people around us. Adding fitness like martial arts or kickboxing into our daily lives takes care of us. When something in us goes off, it affects everything else about us. Our mood, behavior, tone, and actions are all taken in by who we are with daily.

What are you going to do differently in 2017 than this year with your goal making?

Tip #1: If you are waiting to start a fitness class or the aim to lose weight at the beginning of next year, brainstorm action plans of obstacles that could lead you off path. Tiredness, hunger, limited time, social event s with friends could all lead to temptations to skip a day.

Tip #2: Surround yourself with people who are on the same mission as you. Not everyone of your friends may be eager to start the plan to lose 30 pounds, but there are a lot of people out there who are. Kickboxing and/or martial art classes are a good way to go to be around high energy people while still being able to go at your own pace.

Tip #3: Start when you can. Aside that 2017 is really only ten days away, you don’t have to wait until next year to start. If the goal has been pushed off before, why wait another week or two? Plus,  you are able to have a practice round and see your goal in reality. You may have to adjust the goal, but at least you know.

Take charge of 2017 and be happy about where you are to be able to do that. Life is precious, and we get one shot. But the great thing about life is that we have many opportunities to get back on track.
