Duluth Martial Arts Helps Students Develop Good Habits

The rainstorms from the last couple of weeks may have caused chaos, but the grounds definitely needed them. The pollen residue on cars and on top of lakes are washed off, and any sown seed was fed. Now, the seeds that were planted earlier will have a shot at blooming.

This same process occurs when students at Duluth Martial Arts practice the art of HapKiDo. This same process can also apply to how people achieve their goals. What people do now, and how much time they spend on goals, affects their outcome. If a child practices and continues to feed good work habits, s/he will benefit from them as adults.

At Duluth Martial Arts, children are able to develop characteristics that they may not learn anywhere else.

Five Lessons that Students Will Find Valuable from Martial Arts

Attitude

It’s easy to get frustrated, and students learn how to calm down. Through meditation and deep breathing, they learn the value of staying cool headed and directing energy at the current task.

Persistence

How often students practice martial arts affects how they perform. Whether it’s a little time every day or a few days a week, each day of training adds up.

Hard Work

Students could choose to make practice easy, but then they learn how much more they can do with a little challenge. If they are able to push through learning a complex flying snapping kick or a higher level flip, they reap their hard earned efforts.

Humbleness

On a bad day, students realize that they can brush off the dirt and try again. Plus, there is always something to learn, even not on our best days. And eventually, the bad ones become our favorite times when the goal is achieved. The bad ones make the better ones the best.

Focus & Motivation

There could be a million things that a student would like to do, but s/he chooses.

The time gap that kids have is precious because what they learn will shape them. Parents, teachers, the school’s team coach, a martial arts instructor, and etc. can together raise children. The phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child,” can greatly affect a whole generation.

This Month’s HapKiDo Belt Promotion is Coming Up!

The Day that Everyone Looks Foward to!

This Saturday on February 18th starting at 9:30 A.M and until 8 P.M, the students of Choe’s HapKiDo look forward to this month’s Belt Promotion Event. This event starts at one of the schools in the morning, and tours to two more schools by the end of the day. In total, students have three opportunities to choose from on when to participate.

The panel is made of masters and head instructors from each location.  We would like students to think of this day as a day to show all what they have learned.

For Cumming HapKiDo Head Instructor RJ LoPresti, who has been doing martial arts since 6-years-old, “The students get to present what they’ve learned and show how much they’ve grown and improved since their last test. It’s awesome to see everyone’s growth!!”

For Lawrenceville HapKiDo Head Instructor Dan Wilson, who has been doing martial arts since 11-years-old, “We want our students to succeed. As instructors, we still test to keep advancing as Black Belts, and we understand what our students go through every month. We are all growing, and we want to make sure everyone is growing well. ”

The monthly event is a day worth celebrating.  It is an all day event, and everyone looks forward to feasting somewhere fun afterwards. The students who presented themselves and showed everyone what they have learned are able to relax. Everyone from instructor, to students, and to parents get to talk about the day’s highlights.

Even if students are not participating in the Belt Promotion Event, they can still come out support others. This action shows good sportsmanship, and they get to hang out with the HapKiDo family.

“It’s like a family reunion every month,” says Instructor Wilson, “we spend time separately training in our locations with our students, but the belt promotions let everyone gather all at once.”

Hi! I am Instructor Rahkeen Williams at Choe’s HapKiDo Martial Arts Duluth Ga & iLoveKickboxing Duluth! I have achieved first year black belt status in 2015, and I enjoy teaching both HapKiDo and kickboxing classes. My ultimate goal in life is to do as much good as I can. Even if I jam my toe or do not have a car on hand, I will still make it to class to help change lives.

My martial arts career started when I was twenty-years old. I had wanted to do martial arts since being little, and meeting Master Foor changed that. His kindness, wisdom, and perseverance are part of the reasons why I enjoy HapKiDo, Kickboxing, and impacting the world.

I remember when I was a kid and being inspired by the Power Rangers.  Now, teaching kids how to become their best in HapKiDo Martial Arts Duluth Ga is my favorite part. It is a great feeling to watch them go from their first days in class to leveling up on belt tests.

Whatever place you are in life, if you are struggling or feeling nervous about trying HapKiDo or Kickboxing, I will try to motivate you. It is okay if it takes more than one day to achieve a goal. chkd5Reflecting back, growing up between the middle school/high school era challenged everybody – and it still does! Everything is changing during this phase: relationships, interests, hormones, emotions, beliefs, and much, much more. It’s a life defining moment. The teenage years can be brutal, but there are things that can be done to make them better.

1) Be Around Friends

A part of the teenage years is trying to find a place to belong. While some people make friends easily, others struggle with this area. By helping teens find their niche, they will naturally link with other people who share their interests.

2) Develop Self-Respect

One of life’s valuable lessons is learning how to respect yourself. As it is easier to listen to negative comments produced by others and self, it’s not healthy. When teens can develop that respect muscle, only good can from it. They learn to be fair and love themselves for how they are.

3) Be Around Positively Influential People

Good development can come from being around positively influential people. Teens are like plants – they will absorb everything that goes on around them. Place them around people like sport coaches or music teachers, and it will affect them positively during the teenage years.

All of these aspects are offered at Choe’s HapKiDo. We love to watch individuals grow and to be a part of their lives. Students may come into our studios with the day’s grit on their shoulders, but they leave our classes with a new boost of confidence. They know that they have found a community to relate to, and it’s a great place to let off steam!

The Benefits of Meditation – I Love Martial Arts Georgia

At I Love Martial Arts Georgia, we guide individuals through all sorts of exercise to promote for a stronger, better life. One workout that we guide classes through is usually done right before warming up our bodies. In the martial arts world, meditation serves as a tool to connect the mind to the body.

According to Instructor Gasstrom from Choe’s HapKiDo in Loganville, “…your mind plays a significant part when doing physical training and conditioning as it will determine how long you will be able to handle the intensity of the workout. Therefore, by training your mind to overcome greater lengths and amount of workout, you will be able to have even better results.”

As fierce and wild as meditation sounds, it should not be overlooked as useless. It is simple, yet can be powerful. Neurologists have observed beneficial changes to the brain for those that undergo meditation: it can decrease pain sensitivity, improve mood associated to depression and anxiety, increase focus which greatly affect those with ADD/ADHD, and influence to be more awake and relaxed (Dvorsky).

While some studies have shown great changes to those who meditated five hours a day, people can receive benefits from this exercise by attempting 20 minutes a day. The mind is an incredible creation, as it can “memorize how much your body can handle and send it signals…[and] your body will perform against the limitations you set for yourself and improve with repetition (Gasstrom).

Meditation will not work like other forms of exercise because it’s in a zone of its own. If someone is looking for a way to relieve stress, then all forms of exercise including meditation will do. But if someone desires to improve in areas like mood, concentration and breathing, then meditation should be given a try. Especially if it is something that people can get into, it can be so beneficial to one’s health.

I Love Martial Arts Georgia – Who We Are

Choe’s HapKiDo helps people of all sorts. Especially if you have finished school, or find yourself stuck in life, this place provides great distraction. There is always something to look forward to, and you are definitely not wasting time when learning an ancient martial art while also becoming part of a cool community.

First, there are the peers. You bow in and out of class together, you help each other improve, and you even fight each other – in the most respectful way possible! You develop respect for everyone, and you learn to work with all kinds of people.

Then there are the parents. Whether it is your parent or somebody else’s, you still connect. As your peer’s parents are watching their kid(s), they have been watching you too.

Class would not be the same without the assistant instructors. These students drive the class, induce positive energy, and provide a good example of what to work towards.

And of course, everyone likes the instructors and the head instructor. These people influence everyone around them. They always have good advice.

HapKiDo events add to the warm quality of the community. Meeting founder Grandmaster Choe and HapKiDo students from other branches is always fun. From belt tests to competitions, meeting other people who also share your martial arts passion is eye opening.

These people become a part of your life in the best way possible. You see them so often, that you cannot help but to like them all.

Your Best Can Grow! – Georgia Martial Arts

Thought of the day – Always do your best, and your best will grow. Especially if you keep practicing, what you can do increases. What was your best last time, might look different today…the quality has most likely changed in the best way possible.

This idea can be seen between belt tests demonstrated at the studios of I Love Martial Arts Georgia. While the first belt to be accomplished requires an individual to show basic techniques, the belt and onwards slowly add advanced skills. More knowledge and moves are taught and your mind and body must learn to function all. As one might perform at a decent level at one belt test, he/she could perform extraordinary at the next one because of more practice. And overtime, the abilities expand and then the level of applying your best is more demanding because you have graciously gotten better.

So, the more you grow, the better you become!

Your Hand Can Make A Difference – Georgia Martial Arts

I Love Martial Arts Georgia is strong in disciplining the mind and body. We are also big on serving the community. For us, this year showed that having heart in our efforts can make a positive impact. We witnessed this great outcome when we fundraised for Susan G. Koman’s foundation to show support to breast cancer research and to increase a person’s chance to be able to fight. This experience is an example how everyone can help in different ways — from doctors, researchers, and the community.

Some people might say that part of life is figuring out our gifts so to help others. By simply having a pair of working hands, feet, and an open mind, you are capable of being a helping tool for someone else. Whether it’s doing chores on behalf of your parents or tutoring a peer to do better in a class, anything that can make someone’s day easier is worth it. And the more people are willing to help out, the more beautiful the environment grows!
