We can download anything at any second, have packages delivered in a short amount of time, and find quick ways to fix our problems. A technologically advanced society makes waiting even more painful.
But as the old saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait.”

That diploma, the completion of a project, the end of a hard time—these sitiuations show the positive effects of waiting
At Choe’s HapKiDo, we discuss with our students the importance of patience. For example, patience allows us to stay calm. When we are stressed about waiting for results or trying to perfect a technique, getting worked up doesn’t speed up the process. Being patient also teaches us to be more understanding of the situations we come across. For instance, we may get impatient with traffic, long lines, and peers. But if we’re empathetic towards the people around us, and understand that maybe they’re having a tough time, we become more relaxed because we’re making efforts to understand the situations better. So, patience teaches us to reflect ourselves.
So the next time you’re dealing with impatience, remember to relax and take deep breaths. If it’s to do with someone else, try to have some empathy that maybe they’re learning. You may have been in their shoes before. And if it’s impatience with yourself, calm yourself down and remember that patience pays off.
This Saturday on February 18th starting at 9:30 A.M and until 8 P.M, the students of Choe’s HapKiDo look forward to this month’s Belt Promotion Event. This event starts at one of the schools in the morning, and tours to two more schools by the end of the day. In total, students have three opportunities to choose from on when to participate.
The panel is made of masters and head instructors from each location. We would like students to think of this day as a day to show all what they have learned.
For Cumming HapKiDo Head Instructor RJ LoPresti, who has been doing martial arts since 6-years-old, “The students get to present what they’ve learned and show how much they’ve grown and improved since their last test. It’s awesome to see everyone’s growth!!”
For Lawrenceville HapKiDo Head Instructor Dan Wilson, who has been doing martial arts since 11-years-old, “We want our students to succeed. As instructors, we still test to keep advancing as Black Belts, and we understand what our students go through every month. We are all growing, and we want to make sure everyone is growing well. ”
The monthly event is a day worth celebrating. It is an all day event, and everyone looks forward to feasting somewhere fun afterwards. The students who presented themselves and showed everyone what they have learned are able to relax. Everyone from instructor, to students, and to parents get to talk about the day’s highlights.
Even if students are not participating in the Belt Promotion Event, they can still come out support others. This action shows good sportsmanship, and they get to hang out with the HapKiDo family.
“It’s like a family reunion every month,” says Instructor Wilson, “we spend time separately training in our locations with our students, but the belt promotions let everyone gather all at once.”
Cumming, GA, October 15, 2016 – Choe’s HapKiDo hosted a 5K fundraiser to donate all proceeds for Alexsander Academy, a school where children are academically challenged regardless of learning differences and special needs. The 140 racers of The Academics 4 All 5K Run/Walk were composed of students, parents, kickboxers, and martial artists. In fact, this is the second year straight that Choe’s HapKiDo organized an Academics 4 All 5K race.
The race kicked off at 8:30am at West Bank Park in Cumming, GA. The racers were divided into categories according to age, and the top three racers in each group received medals. Waters and bananas were included for after the race.
For some of these participants, the Academics 4 All was their first 5K. This was the case for twenty-five-year-old HapKiDo instructor Zach Vaughn and fifty-two-year-old fitness kickboxer Duuna Richardson. Vaughn recalled that his biggest challenge during the race was to not slow down, “It was easy to keep going because of all my fellow peers who kept pushing themselves the entire time, so that gave me motivation to keep going.”
For 5K participant Duuna Richardson, she had previously participated in races as a volunteer, so the Acadmics 4 All was her first race, “The biggest challenge was completing the race…But the best part of the race was running across the finish line and ultimately winning a medal.”
Everybody involved in the race enjoyed the landscape of the grand park while also feeling proud for coming together for a good cause. Choe’s HapKiDo tries to find ways to help better the community. From participating in canned food drives and collecting school supplies for students in the communtiy, the 5K race is a way to encourage a school like Alexsander that is also making a difference in children’s lives.

A martial art such as HapKiDo teaches an indefinite number of lessons that intertwine with one another.
