Choe’s HapKiDo: Patience

Choe's HapKiDo - Kids Martial Arts -Karate
www.ilovemartialartsgeorgia.com

Choe’s HapKiDo – One of the hardest lesson to learn? Patience. And in this day and age, we are spoiled with instant results. We can download anything at any second, have packages delivered in a short amount of time, and find quick ways to fix our problems. A technologically advanced society makes waiting even more painful.

But as the old saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait.”

Have you ever experienced gratification after seeing your hard work paying off? It took time, persistance, and discipline. There may have been tears and sweat, but it was worth it, right? That diploma, the completion of a project, the end of a hard time—these sitiuations show the positive effects of waiting

At Choe’s HapKiDo, we discuss with our students the importance of patience. For example, patience allows us to stay calm. When we are stressed about waiting for results or trying to perfect a technique, getting worked up doesn’t speed up the process. Being patient also teaches us to be more understanding of the situations we come across. For instance, we may get impatient with traffic, long lines, and peers. But if we’re empathetic towards the people around us, and understand that maybe they’re having a tough time, we become more relaxed because we’re making efforts to understand the situations better. So, patience teaches us to reflect ourselves.

So the next time you’re dealing with impatience, remember to relax and take deep breaths. If it’s to do with someone else, try to have some empathy that maybe they’re learning. You may have been in their shoes before. And if it’s impatience with yourself, calm yourself down and remember that patience pays off.

Because it does!

This Month’s HapKiDo Belt Promotion is Coming Up!

The Day that Everyone Looks Foward to!

This Saturday on February 18th starting at 9:30 A.M and until 8 P.M, the students of Choe’s HapKiDo look forward to this month’s Belt Promotion Event. This event starts at one of the schools in the morning, and tours to two more schools by the end of the day. In total, students have three opportunities to choose from on when to participate.

The panel is made of masters and head instructors from each location.  We would like students to think of this day as a day to show all what they have learned.

For Cumming HapKiDo Head Instructor RJ LoPresti, who has been doing martial arts since 6-years-old, “The students get to present what they’ve learned and show how much they’ve grown and improved since their last test. It’s awesome to see everyone’s growth!!”

For Lawrenceville HapKiDo Head Instructor Dan Wilson, who has been doing martial arts since 11-years-old, “We want our students to succeed. As instructors, we still test to keep advancing as Black Belts, and we understand what our students go through every month. We are all growing, and we want to make sure everyone is growing well. ”

The monthly event is a day worth celebrating.  It is an all day event, and everyone looks forward to feasting somewhere fun afterwards. The students who presented themselves and showed everyone what they have learned are able to relax. Everyone from instructor, to students, and to parents get to talk about the day’s highlights.

Even if students are not participating in the Belt Promotion Event, they can still come out support others. This action shows good sportsmanship, and they get to hang out with the HapKiDo family.

“It’s like a family reunion every month,” says Instructor Wilson, “we spend time separately training in our locations with our students, but the belt promotions let everyone gather all at once.”

Choe’s HapKiDo Hosts a 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser for a Local Private School

Cumming, GA, October 15, 2016 – Choe’s HapKiDo hosted a 5K fundraiser to donate all proceeds for Alexsander Academy, a school where children are academically challenged regardless of learning differences and special needs. The 140 racers of The Academics 4 All 5K Run/Walk were composed of students, parents, kickboxers, and martial artists. In fact, this is the second year straight that Choe’s HapKiDo organized an Academics 4 All 5K race.

The race kicked off at 8:30am at West Bank Park in Cumming, GA. The racers were divided into categories according to age, and the top three racers in each group received medals. Waters and bananas were included for after the race.

For some of these participants, the Academics 4 All was their first 5K. This was the case for twenty-five-year-old HapKiDo instructor Zach Vaughn and fifty-two-year-old fitness kickboxer Duuna Richardson. Vaughn recalled that his biggest challenge during the race was to not slow down, “It was easy to keep going because of all my fellow peers who kept pushing themselves the entire time, so that gave me motivation to keep going.”

For 5K participant Duuna Richardson, she had previously participated in races as a volunteer, so the Acadmics 4 All was her first race, “The biggest challenge was completing the race…But the best part of the race was running across the finish line and ultimately winning a medal.”

Everybody involved in the race enjoyed the landscape of the grand park while also feeling proud for coming together for a good cause. Choe’s HapKiDo tries to find ways to help better the community. From participating in canned food drives and collecting school supplies for students in the communtiy, the 5K race is a way to encourage a school like Alexsander that is also making a difference in children’s lives.

Martial Arts Snellville Georgia Helps Children Exercise Their Focus Muscles

focus

When it comes to paying attention in school, anything can become a distraction to a child. Whether it is due to someone else in the classroom or to the wandering mind, there is always something. Depending on the child, the ability to focus in class eventually shows up in schoolwork and/or report cards. When grades begin to drop and report cards keep coming back with negative feedback, a child’s confidence and self-esteem also decreases. Extra tutoring and discipline can help, but there are ways to better a child’s focus: find a good martial arts program. Through a martial arts program, students walk away with a better understanding of themselves. One good program, Martial Arts Snellville Georgia is a life-changing solution for anyone who wants to improve the ability to focus.

Martial Arts Snellville Georgia understands the importance and beauty of being able to focus. From our many years of experience, martial arts is a sport that requires full attention. From the beginning of class where the instructor calls for attention and to the many exercises, the mind is required to concentrate on many objects for short amounts of time. Exercises that students are guided through in a typical class that will help increase a person’s focus ability include meditation, target kicking, tumbling, self-defense, and sparring.

At Martial Arts Snellville Georgia, the numerous exercises are highly beneficial. As meditation helps to calm the mind, it also results for a cool, alert mindset. By doing this at the beginning of class, it allows students to ready the mind. After the mind is prepared well, target kicking is best done when the eyes and mind are fully set on the target. If the mind wanders off or the gaze shifts, the performance will not be so successful. With target kicking, the mind focuses on the target but also on other factors to perform kicks such as height, speed, and distance. Similar to target kicking, tumbling and sparring require the same amount of attention. As the child is running towards the spot to roll, or s/he begins to block, there is no room for the mind to disappear.

Through a well-rounded martial arts program, like Martial Arts Snellville Georgia, children learn hands-on the effects of good focus. By spending time exercising the brain outside of school, students are able to apply what they learn in martial arts. They come to understand what it takes for them to fully concentrate, and they witness the success that comes with being present 110%.

picture

Karate Norcross provides such a positive experience, that its impact lasts in the students for a long time: the accomplishments, the lessons, and most importantly—the friendships. Martial arts would not be the same if it were not for the instructors and peers. As a child, if anything was learned it was that having friends make living life better. As parents, we care about the well-being of our kids, especially when it comes to them making friends. From our experience as being martial arts instructors and parents, martial arts compliments the lives of all individuals. By having your child being involved in a martial arts program, the friendships built throughout classes will boost your child’s self-esteem when trying to make friends everywhere else.

6 Ways Karate Norcross Will Improve Your Child’s Life Social Life.

Karate Norcross is…

  1. An opportunity to meet kids of the same age. While your child associates with other children at school, meeting more boys/girls at Karate Norcross adds a bigger variety.
  2. A way to connect with kids who have similar interests. Being involved in activities outside of school will give your child more opportunities to branch out. If your child loves martial arts, or shows an interest in it, being around martial artists his age will start numerous conversations and excitement.
  3. An icebreaker. Your child sharing news about the latest accomplishments in Karate Norcross will fascinate classmates, teachers, relatives, and many more people s/he associates with.
  4. A way to bond with other people. By working together all of the time, whether it is by holding a target for your partner or collaborating on other exercises, students cannot help but bond. Especially when kids start hanging out at other Karate Norcross events and outside of class hangouts, the friendships built from martial arts are impactful.
  5. An experience that helps individuals learn more about themselves. As your child becomes more familiar with the martial arts ropes, s/he understands more about how to lead themselves through all kinds of obstacles.
  6. A lesson on how to work and to get along with all types of people. The beauty of Karate Norcross is that all sorts of people walk through our doors. And it is more beautiful to see all of these different children, teens, and adults working together—and enjoying each other’s company!

Making friends can be a struggle that affects your child’s self-esteem. By signing up your child for something to look forward to after school, a physical and social activity like Karate Norcross will brighten up his/her mood. The benefits of Karate Dacula Georgia

Martial arts have been around for a very long time. Over the years and centuries, fighting styles have been passed on from generation to the next generation.  In general, martial arts involve fighting techniques, mental discipline and various philosophical elements.

Karate Dacula Georgia
Karate Dacula Georgia

Our society has become increasingly interested in these martial arts over the last few decades. Below are discussed several benefits that may help you realize all the wonderful benefits the martial arts have to offer.

In the first place, martial arts are good for learning self-defence techniques. While it may be an obvious fact that learning martial arts means learning self-defence techniques, not so obvious is the fact that while learning martial arts, you’re learning to fight so you don’t have to. That said, you’ll carry yourself more confidently so you’ll be much less likely a victim of bullying and assaults. A confident person feels more valuable and has the ability to face life’s challenges head on. A self-assured person is more resilient to peer pressure and is less likely to get into serious trouble or do drugs.

Additionally, martial arts will increase your coordination. Everyone will develop varying degrees of physical skill from Karate Daulca, but everyone will become more flexible and stronger through training. Even more, very few activities help improve concentration like martial arts can. It exercises the mind, body and spirit all in one and improves one’s concentration. This will help in other areas of life such as schooling and business. That’s because martial arts simply teach you how to think and how to act.

The obvious benefit of learning martial arts is the improvement of physical health. As the student learns to exercise regularly several times a week, he or she will get used to the habit of exercise which is maybe the most useful lifetime habit. This results in balancing blood pressure, lowing the cholesterol level and reducing the number of visits to the doctor. Moreover, the student gets flexible muscles, which fairly increases the chances of surviving accidents and slips and with fewer injuries. For example, Karate Dacula Georgia school helped many practitioners become more flexible and stronger people.

The state of good health and psychological well-being acquired through martial arts training can be channeled into every day life to achieve personal and career goals. The spiritual side of martial arts is not religious. It’s a state of mind that enables practitioners to overcome fear, anxiety and emotional blocks. Attitude is a state of mind that’s developed by discipline. And discipline is acquired through martial arts.

Karate Dacula Georgia
Dacula Georgia Karate

A martial art with a good Karate Instructor can transform the way you think. For example, you may go in with one mindset and come out like a completely different person with different behavior. Of course, this doesn’t happen in a day or in a year, but definitely over time.

Learning a martial art is especially good for children. For many young kids, one of the skill sets that’s often overlooked is balance and posture. Poor posture leads to improper breathing, cramped organs and a while host of other unhealthy bodily expressions. Karate Dacula Georgia can help you teach your little ones to build strong balance, flexible body, healthy postures and balanced movement through the use of age appropriate drills and forms, often presented as an engaging game to help practitioners improve these fundamental skills.

You’d be amazed at how friendly the people who train martial arts are.  You can always check out Karate Dacula Georgia as a starting point. Karate Dacula Georgia will help you in deciding which art is the best one for you.

Finally, a major part of any traditional martial arts school is learning the art of respect. We start and finish the classes with demonstration of respect and it continues during the class as well. You can always refer to Karate Dacula Georgia in order to learn more about martial arts.

Using Different Learning Styles in Martial Arts

IMG_20150221_112932254

Applying students’ different learning styles in martial arts can make a big difference in their experiences. For example, when adapting to new material, some students might do well just by listening while other students may want to take notes throughout class. By grasping new information with the way they learn best, especially with a martial art like HapKiDo, students will be able to enjoy the program more.

One way that Choe’s HapKiDo likes to expand its students’ experience is to engage in the Korean culture. In addition to practicing its etiquette, students gradually learn the HapKiDo-style kicks in Korean. Therefore, time is spent trying to memorize these terms. Referring back to the different learning styles in martial arts, how someone learns the terms might be different as there are different ways to absorb new material:

  1. Memorizing terms by staring at them on a sheet of paper; pictures and colors will also help. (visual)
  2. Listening to recordings of the terms being spoken. (auditory)
  3. Say the Korean terms while practicing the moves. (tactile)

Whichever style works, arranging the terms in certain ways can help too.

-One way, start with the terms that you use frequently:

AN DA RI CHA GI
Inside Kick

BA GAT DA RI CHA GI
Outside Kick

YUP CHA GI
Side Kick

-Another way, you can group the terms that look/sound similar:

AN DA RI CHA GI
Inside Kick

AN DA RI CHA NUT GI
Inside Low Scoop Kick

At least with the 24 basic kicks that will never go away, there are many more ways to have productive study times, and finding ways to make sense of any type of information helps a lot! If it means bothering a co-worker or friend to quiz you or writing them on your hand for non-test times, then try it out!

Choe’s HapKiDo Martial Arts Teaches Self Defense Classes Georgia

A martial art such as HapKiDo teaches an indefinite number of lessons that intertwine with one another. On top of offering great self defense classes Georgia, one lesson that will always continue is one’s judgment with distancing. This skill is important when it comes to practicing kicks on still targets and moving targets.

While still targets allow students to perfect distancing, moving targets require them to constantly adjust their distances so to obtain the perfect length to apply a move in mind. If the student is too far away, then he/she will miss the target and be not as effective. On the other hand, if the student is too close, he/she may try to adjust awkwardly so to meet the target. The power behind these types of moves is better when the distance between you and the target is met directly with good distance. And the desired distance is different from person to person as legs (and arms!) come in all sorts of lengths. But with practice, everyone can improve.

One of the cool benefits of martial arts classes is that people learn more about their body design, and how to best apply it. Especially when we see many types of people come in, it is fantastic when everyone can learn and enjoy our HapKiDo Karate program!
